Garnet
Garnet is derived from the Latin "granatus" meaning "seedlike" probably because the crystals as they occur in rock are similar to pomegranate seeds. Garnet comes in many shades including "Red/Brown" Rhodolite (Rose) and Tsavorite (Green). Garnet is considered the gem of faith, constancy and truth. Rhodolite and in fact all colors of Garnet are acceptable as the January birthstone. It is found in the United States as well as Ceylon, Tanzania, Rhodesia and Madagascar.
