Amethyst

Amethyst is from the Greek word "Amethustos" meaning sober which comes from the belief that Amethyst protects its wearer from the effects of alcohol. This February birthstone is most often from Brazil or Africa. It is called the noblest quartz for its Royal Purple hue which is likened to the color of fine wine. This similarity in color may be the basis for the myths concerning its power over alcohol.
